When we met Matt Rabideau and his lovely wife Natalie they were a long way away from their Minden, Nevada, home. There was no denying that this ’66 Nova was one of, if not the hottest rides at the Route 66 show, but once we heard Rabideau’s story, we knew we had to shoot this car.
Right from the very beginning in the long history of customizing, swapping out parts from one car to another is what this crazy idea is all about. From the Barris Bros. to Blackie Gejeian to Roy Brizio’s new crew and others, putting the dash, front end or lights from one car onto another is just one way to make what you have different from all the others. Alan Wrublevski is keeping that tradition alive with his ‘53 Ford Victoria.
Instrument repair is becoming somewhat of a lost art. There are a lot of little springs, magnets and other parts hiding inside the average instrument, and it takes knowledge and practice to get them working again. Sure, you can get entire clusters from the major suppliers, but what if you want to retain the stock appearance?
